"error 99 is B-A-D"

...said from the camera man in charlotte after taking my beloved digital rebel to a camera store. I was getting this error message everytime I tried to take a shot. (Imagine a THICK Southern accent and it makes it even more amusing, or daunting). It appears while we were vacation outside of Charleston, I stepped from a very cool air conditioned house to a hot humid sticky porch and tried to snap a shot. My shutter appeared to "lock" and I was unable to take photos the rest of the trip...wah wah wah. The camera man looked at me like it was obvious I needed to let my camera get used to climate change...um, no. I am surprised I even know how to use the thing, seeing as my technical ability is about that of a baboon. Then again, A baboon probably has one up on me.

Sending it off to Canon this week. Fingers crossed that it does not cost TOO much. Not in the budget to fix right now. In the meantime, I did get an early birthday gift of the Canon Powershot A560. Takes pretty dern good shots, albeit a little blurry..apparently there is a bit of a learning curve. Just have to get used to not looking through the VERY teeny viewfinder and use the big screen. Hard for me to adjust to. Did get a few good shots with it before we left for Brooklyn.

Always strange coming back to my apartment after I have been away. Always seems so very small - takes me a while to get adjusted to living here after being away. Alone a good bit of the time. Still quite hard for me to grasp. Had a bit of a sad morning, missing family back home, feeling sorry for myself with no good reason to - but after putting Aiden and I's things away and looking through all the new scrapbooking stuff I got (how neat to actually be able to see and touch product!), my spirits rose a bit. I plan on getting back into doing some more "healing" pages - getting my thoughts down on paper really helps. It's a bit strange how something that you know is right can still hurt so gosh dern much.

Getting ready for work now, back into the swing of things FULL force and head on this week so I will post more stories and photos from our MUCH NEEDED trip away very soon. Lots of ups (and a few quite silly down's) to share. Aiden is out of school for the next two weeks, so we will be hanging out for the next few mornings before work.

Got around to taking an updated photo of my creative area. I so like the fact that everything is hidden and contained. Added a few things (a bottom shelf for my printer namely). Nice and clean before Aiden and I head to Charlotte for a week of vacation Saturday morning....hooray! Most everything is from the Container Store, Ikea, Pottery Barn or Target but I did manage to score these new boxes from West elm earlier this week.

I like the bit of pattern they add to the mix. if they weren't QUITE as pricey, I would have gotten a few more. Had to restrain myself for now.

Just getting back from a carnival at Aiden's school. We had so much fun. He started off a little iffy and was unsure why I was there and just wanted to go home, but ended with lots of giggles, and an awesome bean bag toss. I cannot wait to take home all the goodies he made. So many neat things from this summer. I'm off to work, so i'm gonna keep this short and sweet. Just wanted to say hi.

back in the groove...

of scrapbooking again. I think i've done more pages in the last two weeks than I did all last year. Feels nice. REALLY trying to get back into things on a more steady basis, to help facilitate my staying home more to be with Aiden. While I love my job, the hours right now are not conducive to single-mamahood..so i've been pressing on, throwing out article ideas, and submitting again. Really trying to make something happen, I feel like I have been out of it for so long...we'll see.

I did get a chance to participate in the newest book Making Memories is working on. Did a couple of pages and eight cards or so. A challenge for me because I am not the "card making type", but it was nice to break out of my comfort-zone a little bit. Came home from work to these goodies today. I ADORE the "flourishes and icons" rub-on book and the super big glitter chipboard letters. So fun. Chipboard was something that I never really used that much of before, but really liking the dimension it adds to the page.
Hoping to get the chance to work with Making Memories more this year.
